Transformers centers on two opposing factions of transforming alien robots – Autobots and Decepticons – that engage in a battle that has the fate of Earth in the balance. The television series is based on Hasbro’s line of popular toys and aired on WGN and other syndicated TV stations in the 1980’s and on into the 1990’s.

Created by Henry Orenstein, the 1984 series featured the same voice actors that would bring the franchise to life on the big screen two years later, in 1986 – including Frank Welker as Megatron, Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Corey Burton as Spike Witwicky, Christopher Collins as Starscream, Jack Angel as Ultra Magnus, Dan Gilvezan as Bumblebee, Michael Bell as Prowl, Casey Kasem as Teletraan I, Don Messick as Ratchet, and Neil Ross as Springer, along with John Stephenson as Thundercracker.

The TV series was spawned from an original three-part 1984 mini-series that would come to be called “More Than Meets the Eye.” It was produced by Sunbow Productions & Marvel Productions, and ran for four seasons.
