On November 2, 2026, Interscope Records releases the first official vinyl pressing for the Pump Up the Volume Soundtrack since its original release for the 1990 film. The cult classic soundtrack is a definitive slice of late ’80s and early ’90s alternative rock, showcasing a mix of established artists as well as more underground acts, serving as a launch pad to a decade of incredible alternative rock.
Additionally, this is the first official vinyl pressing to include the bonus track “Tale O’ the Twister,” performed by Chagall Guevara, which was previously only available on the CD and Cassette releases.
In the late ’80s, America’s teens sought out a new voice for their pain after filmmaker John Hughes pointed his writer’s pen towards other subjects after 1987’s Some Kind of Wonderful. Then in 1990, filmmaker Allan Moyle, who crafted a more gritty coming-of-age interpretation of adolescent life with the 1980 film Times Square, brought his punk music credentials to Pump Up the Volume. The music is central to the movie’s plot about a pirate radio DJ (Christian Slater) broadcasting from his parents’ basement in Phoenix, Arizona, who finds an outlet to exercise his teenage angst and speak out against hypocrisies and injustices in society. Written and directed by Allan Moyle, Pump Up the Volume also stars Anthony Luke Lucero, Andy Romano, Keith Stuart Thayer, Cheryl Pollak, Jeff Chamberlain, Billy Morrissette, Samantha Mathis, Lala Sloatman, Holly Sampson, Annie Ross, Christian Slater, Annie Rusoff, Jonathan Mazer, Alexander Enberg, Ahmet Zappa, Seth Green, Mimi Kennedy, Scott Paulin, Ellen Greene, Robert Gavin, Dan Eisenstein, Mark Ballou, Daryl Sebert, Gregg Daniel, Marc Siegler, Robert Schenkkan, Ariana Mohit, Jill Jaress, Nolan Hemmings, Justin Hessling and Jay Lambert.
