The annual Sundance Film Festival is organized by the Sundance Institute. It is the largest independent film festival in the United States, acting as a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival consists of competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films, both feature films and short films, along with a group of out-of-competition sections, including NEXT, New Frontier, Spotlight, Midnight, Sundance Kids, From the Collection, Premieres, and Documentary Premieres.
The Hotel Boulderado is scheduled to be the Sundance Film Festival headquarters for 2027, the first time the festival has been held outside of Park City, Utah in its more than forty year history. The City of Boulder gave festival organizers $34 million in incentives to relocate to the city, and Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed a law providing up to $34 million more in tax credits.
