The Museum of Science, Boston announced on August 19, 2026 that construction on its 10,000 square foot civic venue is nearing completion. The William and Charlotte Bloomberg Public Science Common opens to the public on October 10, 2026, followed by a celebratory event on October 28th.
The space is designed to inspire lifelong engagement with science by sparking discourse and discovery. Activities include immersive experiences around urgent topics including artificial intelligence, climate change, public health, and space exploration. The Bloomberg Public Science Common connects scientific voices with local and global audiences. It hosts conversations with leading scientists and communicators, conferences and symposia.
The Common also features floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the Charles River. This enables 270-degree views of the Boston Skyline, along with state-of-the-art immersive media, production, and live-streaming technology. The venue is also be available for corporate and private events.
The Bloomberg Public Science Common was designed by William Rawn Associates Architects — designers of Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, and the Cambridge Public Library, along with the transformation of the Boston Public Library’s Central Library — and built by Consigli Construction. The facility includes movable walls and retractable seating, allowing the room to transform from an intimate morning roundtable for a dozen scientists, to daytime programs for schools, as well as evening public events with a full performance stage.
