On February 18, 2025, the American Genre Film Archive – also known as AGFA – announced a theatrical distribution partnership with home entertainment label Synapse Films. The deal makes the Synapse cult horror catalog – which includes some of the most iconic Italian giallo, gore and zombie movies ever lensed – available for arthouse and revival licensing for the first time in decades.
The films that have been made immediately available in either DCP or 4K DCP (Digital Cinema Package) screening format, include Dario Argento’s Phenomena and Tenebre, along with Lamberto Bava’s Italian gore-blasts Demons and Demons 2, Jorge Grau’s The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, the Gary Jones giant bug epic Mosquito, Popcorn (which contains a great homage to William Castle), Curt McDowell and George Kuchar’s exploitation classic Thundercrack!, and Amando de Ossorio’s zombie horror Tombs of the Blind Dead.
