Every night, a mysterious woman in immaculate clothes takes the same corner seat in a grimy café in São Paulo’s crack-ravaged downtown. She orders a coffee she never drinks and simply watches. Marcos (Gabriel Stauffer), a downtrodden waiter who’s always late and always in trouble with his sadistic boss (Marat Descartes), can’t take his eyes off her. When Helena (Thais Lago) seems to land in danger one night, Marcos rushes to her rescue, only to discover she never needed saving. She is a centuries-old vampire, on the run from a rival clan of immortals who want her dead. Drawn into a glamorous, blood-soaked underworld hidden in plain sight, Marcos finds himself caught in a war between vampires, and in a romance that may cost him his life.

Adapted from Danilo Beyruth’s acclaimed Brazilian graphic novel, Luiza Shelling Tubaldini’s solo directing debut turns downtown São Paulo into a neon-lit gothic fable. Tubaldini uses vampirism as a lens on outcast women, trauma and survival. Bathed in neon and bursting with stylish action, Love Kills is a seductive tale of desire, redemption and bloodlust.

Love Kills won Best Sound at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival, where it was also nominated for Best Film. The movie was also an Official Selection of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival along with the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

Written and directed by Tubaldini, Love Kills also stars Iuri Saraiva and Erom Cordeiro.
