Columbia Pictures, Kino Lorber

Kino Lorber presents repertory screenings of a 4k restoration of the 1980 crime thriller Night of the Juggler. The film opens on August 1, 2025 at the IFC Center in New York City, and on September 4, 2025 in Los Angeles at the American Cinematheque, with star James Brolin in attendance for Q&As after select screenings.

The grit and intensity of 1970s New York City are depicted in the relentlessly action-packed cult classic. Twenty-four hours of tension and suspense start when a racist, twisted psychotic (Cliff Gorman from Cops and Robbers, All That Jazz) kidnaps a teenage girl, mistaking her for the daughter of a wealthy real estate developer that he blames for the impending foreclosure of his South Bronx building. Her determined father (James Brolin from The Car, The Amityville Horror) – a tough former cop-turned-trucker – doggedly pursues them through New York City’s sordid streets, along with the grimy subterranean corridors beneath the city itself.

The pressure Brolin’s character faces hunting for his daughter is underscored by the unresolved, simmering tensions he’s confronted with as he seeks assistance from his former associates at the NYPD, as well as a psychologically brutal standoff he has with his ex-wife (Linda Miller from Alice, Sweet Alice) in front of a police precinct he’s just “escaped” from, as they debate whether their daughter was raised properly.

Based on the novel by William P. McGivern (The Big Heat, Odds Against Tomorrow) and co-starring Richard S. Castellano (The Godfather), Julie Carmen (In the Mouth of Madness), Dan Hedaya (Blood Simple) and Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride), Night of the Juggler is an example of pure adrenaline-fueled filmmaking. The film’s original director Sidney J. Furie (The Ipcress File, The Appaloosa) was replaced by Robert Butler (Up the Creek, Turbulence) a few weeks into production.

Night of the Juggler also stars Barton Heyman, Sully Boyar, Abby Bluestone, Dan Hedaya and Marco St. John.
