On May 16, 1975, Busch Gardens Williamsburg opens to the public as Busch Gardens: The Old Country, the name it held until 1992. At other points in the amusement park’s history, it was also known as Busch Gardens Europe.
The 422-acre amusement park in James City County near Williamsburg, Virginia, is located approximately 60 miles northwest of Virginia Beach. Busch Gardens Williamsburg was developed by Anheuser-Busch and is owned by United Parks & Resorts as one of two Busch Gardens theme parks. Some of the park main attractions include notable roller coasters such as Griffon, Verbolten, Pantheon, Alpengeist, Apollo’s Chariot and The Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge, due to open as part of the park’s 50th anniversary celebration on May 16, 2025 in previews for park members and then to the general public on May 23, 2025.
