On October 9, 2026, Paramount released a featurette for their upcoming action game adaptation Street Fighter. The video includes the film’s director Kitao Sakurai discussing why visuals for the flashback sequences of characters Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Ryu’s (Andrew Koji) past were accomplished using traditional, hand-drawn, ’90s-style animation by Titmouse Animation. The studio also revealed a hand-drawn character poster for the character Gouken, who’s voiced by Don Lee in the sequences. The animation approach itself isn’t completely novel. Animation was also utilized by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino during flashback scenes narrating the origin story of character O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) in Kill Bill. Those sequences were created by legendary anime studio Production I.G.

Sakurai reflects on being born in Japan and the heavy influence Japanese anime and manga had on his adolescence, and how the Street Fighter video games were a bridge between Japanese and American culture. He goes on to suggest that the use of hand-drawn animation acts as an homage to the spirit of the original video game the movie is based on.

The video goes on to include clips of Titmouse staff, including Animation Supervisor Young Heller and Art Director Khang Le, as they discuss how actor likenesses and live-action fight choreography from the movie influenced the direction of the animated scenes. Takayuki Nakayama, Game Director of Street Fighter V and Street Fighter 6, who is a Producer on the movie, also chimes in on how impressed he was with the results of the animated sequences in the film.

All of the interview clips are edited with dynamic visuals from the movie itself, Titmouse staff producing the key frame drawings, and live-action sequences from the Street Fighter movie, which is released in movie theaters on October 16, 2026. The film is set in 1993, centering on estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Koji) and Ken Masters (Centineo), who are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament – a brutal clash of fists, fate and fury.
