The Donning Company

The first edition of the novel Vampire Junction by S. P. Somtow was published on July 1, 1984, by The Donning Company, through their Starblaze Graphics imprint.

Vampire Junction is the first in a three-book series centering on Timmy Valentine, a 12-year-old rock star who is actually a 2,000-year-old vampire. Unpublished for many years and rejected by more than two dozen publishers, the novel uses a unique narrative technique inspired by the rapid intercutting of MTV music videos, and features a high level of the imagery from “splatter” films.

Subsequent editions of Vampire Junction were published by Berkley/Ace and Tor Books. The book has also been reissued by Diplodocus Press. The novel has been voted one of the “forty all-time greatest horror books” by the Horror Writers Association.

Author S. P. Somtow – a Thai-American science fiction, fantasy and horror author – is also a musical composer and conductor. Somtow has written two sequels to Vampire Junction, titled Valentine and Vanitas.
