On October 18, 2024, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis released a concept album titled Warriors. Inspired by the 1979 Paramount Pictures action film The Warriors and the book by Sol Yurick, Warriors is Executive Produced by Grammy Award Winning Rapper and New York City Native, Nas, and Produced by Grammy Award winning musician Mike Elizondo.

Along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis, Warriors features an array of voices, including Shenseea, The Bizzies, Chris Rivers, Nas, Cam’ron, Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes, Kim Dracula, Alex Boniello, James Remar, David Patrick Kelly, Colman Domingo, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Casey Likes, Ghostface Killah, RZA, Mykal Kilgore, Michaela Jae, Billy Porter, The Cardigans, Flaco Navaja, Stephen Sanchez, Marc Anthony, and Luis Figueroa.

The initial release in October of 2024 included 2-LP black vinyl and CD editions, with a 26 track playlist. The 2-LP vinyl edition UPC number is 075678604485 and the 2-CD edition UPC number is 075678604522.

Album Background

Miranda first saw The Warriors at age four on VHS. The musician and filmmaker has stated that the story has been “on two stone tablets in my head” since watching it that first time.

Miranda’s friend Phil Westgren suggested the idea of a musical based on the movie to him in 2009 after In The Heights was released in theaters. Miranda initially told Westgren the idea wouldn’t work. After the first run of Hamilton on Broadway, Miranda admitted to thinking about adapting The Warriors, and in 2022 proposed the idea of collaborating on the project to Eisa Davis, who had never watched the original film.

In August 2023, the New York Post reported that Lin-Manuel Miranda was developing a musical adaptation of Sol Yurick’s novel The Warriors. Then in July 2024, it was reported that Miranda was finishing up the recording of a concept album for a new musical based on The Warriors film.
