Jacob K. Javits Center

U.S. Postal Service

On October 9, 2014, the United States Postal Service officially debuts a series of postage stamps based on the DC Comics superhero Batman. The stamps were launched during New York Comic Con at Jacob K. Javits Center on the Westside of Manhattan. During the convention, fans were able to tour a pop up exhibition of Batman costumes from various television and film iterations, along with memorabilia. There was also a panel discussion on the character’s storied history in comics, film and television.

Batman was created by the artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted in the 27th issue of the Detective Comics series on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City.
