Mattel, Rizzoli Books

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Mattel – owner of one of the most iconic brand portfolios in the world – along with publisher Rizzoli Books, releases The Mattel Archive, a stunning and definitive illustrated history capturing eight decades of imagination and innovation from Mattel. The hardcover book, created in conjunction with Mattel’s 80th anniversary, features full-page renditions of original printed Mattel catalogs, each featuring the shifting typography and visual style through the decades.

The Mattel Archive chronicles Mattel’s transformation from its founding in 1945 inside of a California home’s garage to its present-day status as a global leader in toy manufacturing and family entertainment. The book also spotlights Mattel’s iconic franchises Barbie, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Masters of the Universe, American Girl, Fisher-Price, Thomas & Friends, UNO, and more, all brought to life through archival images. The book acts as a rich visual guide to Mattel’s history.
