Concerts | Jul 18, 1966

Kosei Nenkin Kaikan

Japan > Tokyo > > Shinjuku-ku

During his only Japanese tour in July of 1966, legendary jazz saxophonist John Coltrane recorded the album John Coltrane Live in Japan, at two Tokyo venues, Shinjuku Kosei Nenkin Hall and Sankei Hall. The recordings – originally made for radio broadcast – feature Coltrane’s last group, a quintet featuring himself, along with his wife/pianist Alice Coltrane, saxophonist/bass clarinetist Pharoah Sanders, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Rashied Ali.
