Texas Chain Saw Day is a special one-night-only event that takes place on August 18, 2025. The event celebrates the iconic cult horror film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre with a theatrical screening in 4K.

This event marks the anniversary of the film’s events and includes a sneak peek of the documentary Chain Reactions, which centers on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s cultural impact. Written and directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, Chain Reactions delves into the 1974 movie’s impact on five artists – Patton Oswalt, Takashi Miike, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, Stephen King and Karyn Kusama – through interviews and outtakes, exploring how it shaped their art and psyche from childhood trauma.

Shocking, lurid and completely unapologetic in its brutality, director Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre completely changed cinema following its debut in 1974.

The movie’s events take place on August 18, 1973, following five youths on a weekend getaway in the Texas countryside who fall prey to a butcher in a mask made of human skin, along with his family of cannibals. Violent and viscerally realistic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre terrified audiences in a way never thought possible when it was unleashed on the politically and socially tumultuous America of the 1970s.

Facing a storm of controversy, censorship, and outcry throughout its troubled release, this masterpiece of horror has stood the test of time to become a landmark motion picture and cultural milestone, establishing many of the tenets of what would become the slasher genre. The film has also been named to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

Directed by Tobe Hooper from a script he co-wrote with Kim Henkel, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre stars Marilyn Burns, Allen Danziger, Paul A. Partain, William Vail, Teri McMinn, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow, John Dugan, and Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface.
