On May 26, 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales becomes the first U.S. production to be released on American ScreenX-equipped theaters as part of its regular theatrical run.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a swashbuckler fantasy film directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and written by Jeff Nathanson from a story credited to both Nathanson and executive producer Terry Rossio. Dead Men Tell No Tales is the fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Geoffrey Rush, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario and Kevin McNally.
The story centers on a search for the Trident of Poseidon by a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow pursued by Captain Armando Salazar and a crew of deadly ghosts who have escaped from the Devil’s Triangle. Salazar is determined to kill every pirate at sea and take revenge on Sparrow.
ScreenX is a panoramic film format that presents movies with expanded, dual-sided, 270-degree screens projected on the walls in a theater. First introduced in 2012, it is Co-developed by CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of the CJ CGV group, and KAIST. The firms also created the 4DX motion-theater technology, known as Ultra 4DX.
