Godzilla the King of the Monsters takes on seemingly every Marvel Comics superhero in a single event series when Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe issue number 1 launches July 16, 2025. Marvel and Toho International team up for the series, continuing Godzilla’s return to the Marvel universe, after an early 2025 series of one-shots that pitted him against several different Marvel characters.

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe is a five-issue event comic book series written by Gerry Duggan (Godzilla vs. Hulk #1) with art by Javier Garrón (Uncanny X-Men). The series combines the forces of Marvel’s heroes and villains, in order to bring an end to Godzilla’s rampage.

The story arch begins with a previously dormant Godzilla angrily awoken, as he begins carving a path of annihilation and The Avengers attempting to stop the beast’s cataclysmic rampage. When their combined efforts fail to slow the Bringer of Destruction, Earth’s heroes are forced to go to extraordinary lengths to try and bring Godzilla down – including joining forces with Earth’s most devious villains.

The series also explores how the King of the Monsters is connected to the mysterious metal, Vibranium, and what this means for Wakanda, as Godzilla travels from the Marvel universe to the Dark Dimension. Godzilla also battles an ancient Celestial in the series, a symbiote that bonds with the kaiju, along with a battle between Hulk and Godzilla.
