Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights was originally ncalled Universal Studios Fright Nights when it launched in 1991. The event began as a 3-night spectacle at Universal Studios Florida on October 25, 26, and 31, 1991, with a single haunted house that was called “The Dungeon of Terror.” As of 2023, Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights runs on select days from September 1st through Halloween day, October 31st and features more than 10 themed haunted houses, most based on popular horror and science fiction franchises.
Themed haunted house attractions have included Bugs: Eaten Alive, Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights: Never Go Alone, The Horrors of BlumHouse, Halloween (based on the film series centered on serial killer Michael Meyers), Descendants of Destruction, Universal Monsters: Legends Collide, Dead Man’s Pier: Winter’s Wake, Spirits of the Coven, Cellblock Horror and Fiesta de Chupacabras Haunted House. There are also a number of “zones” and themed entertainment during Halloween Horror Nights, such as the Graveyard: Deadly Unrest zone and the Halloween Nightmare Fuel: Wildfire show. Universal has deviated from movies and video game themes with attractions such as The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare, based on the popular musician The Weeknd’s aesthetic.
