Nintendo, Sendai Publications

Electronic Gaming Monthly, also known as EGM, is a monthly American video game magazine founded by Steve Harris and Sendai Publications. The publication offers video game news, coverage of gaming industry events, interviews and product reviews. The first issue covered the Nintendo games P.O.W., Operation Wolf, 1943, Ultima, RoboCop, Bad Dudes, Bump-N-Jump, Bubble Bobble, Hydlide, Strider, Super Sprint and more, along with a cover feature on Mega Man 2 and video game trading cards. A pullout “FCI Mag Max Poster” was also included as a bonus collectible. The issue, dated May 1989, hit newsstands on March 31, 1989.

EGM was founded in 1988 as U.S. National Video Game Team’s Electronic Gaming Monthly by Sendai. Then in 1994, the magazine spun off EGM2, which focused on expanded cheats and tricks with maps and guides. EGM2 eventually became Expert Gamer and finally GameNOW. After 83 issues, which were published through June of 1996, Electronic Gaming Monthly switched publishers from Sendai Publishing to Ziff Davis.

As of 2024, Electronic Gaming Monthly is owned by EGM Media LLC and is published online at egmnow.com
