A debonair and adventuresome investment executive named Thomas Crown (Steve McQueen) believes he has pulled off the perfect heist, only to match wits with a sexy insurance investigator (Faye Dunaway) who will do anything to get her man. The executive secretly hires four men to pull off the daring daytime bank robbery, dump the money in a trash can and go their separate ways.
Crown pulls up in his Rolls Royce to collect the loot. The insurance investigator, named Vicki Anderson, begins to examine the people who knew enough about the bank to have pulled the robbery and discovers Crown. She starts to monitor his every move and begins seeing him socially. How does the planner of the perfect crime react to pressure?
