SEGA Amusements reveals a preview of their VR experience House of the Dead: Reawakened during the IAAPA Expo in Orlando, from November 16-20, 2026. Hosted by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, the event is considered the largest and most influential trade show for professionals in the global attractions industry. The expo takes place at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando, Florida. On September 30, 2026, just over one month ahead of the event, SEGA Amusements released a teaser video on their Instagram page, with the caption:
Something is reawakening… Dare to experience it. IAAPA Expo Booths S4602 & S4803
House of the Dead: Reawakened is an elaborate two-player VR experience built inside a Gothic manor, complete with doors and windows that spring to life. The experience comes 30 years after the original House of the Dead game debuted in Japanese arcades in 1996. Developed by SEGA, the horror shooter was designed for adults, sending players armed with light guns through a mansion overrun by the undead. SEGA brings that arcade classic to virtual reality with an attraction designed to become a centerpiece for modern arcades. The House of the Dead: Reawakened cabinet is designed as a Gothic manor, with an 85-inch display functioning as its front door, along with two 43-inch vertical displays serving as shuttered windows.
House of the Dead: Reawakened runs on Unreal Engine 5, a game-development technology being increasingly used at the time to create interactive and immersive theme park experiences. For example, Disney uses Unreal Engine 5 for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” missions added to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2026. The technology renders environments in real time, allowing what guests see to respond to their actions.
