After a successful film festival run that included screenings at Sundance, Cleveland International, Sheffield International, Nantucket and Nashville Film Festivals, the music documentary on 1980’s New Wave pioneers Devo premieres on Netflix on August 19, 2025.

In 1980, the band Devo had a hit on their hands with the song “Whip It” and achieved mainstream success with their message of societal “de-evolution,” formed in response to the 1970 Kent State shootings.

Directed by Chris Smith, Devo features band members Mark Mothersbaugh, Gerald Casale and Robert Mothersbaugh, along with archive footage of David Bowie, Richard Branson, Jimmy Carter, Bob Casale, Kip Cohen, The Dead Boys, Brian Eno, Max Ernst, Tony Hawk and many others.
