On April 15, 1947, baseball legend Jackie Robinson broke the baseball color barrier when he started at first base for the Brooklyn Dodgers. The Dodgers signing Robinson heralded the end of racial segregation in professional baseball, which until this date relegated black players to the Negro leagues beginning the 1880s.
